Ravi Kumar gets off with six weeks jail for assault

15 November 2012

A 36-year-old man has been jailed for six weeks and put on the Sex Offender’s Register for seven years for assaulting a woman in her home after she had advertised her son’s tracksuit for sale on an internet site. He will be able to come of the sex offenders register when he is 43.

Ravi Kumar, aged 36, of Laburnham Court, Robin Hood Lane, Sutton, was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates Court on 26th October after pleading guilty to touching a woman in a sexual way without her consent.

Kumar, who worked at the time as a legal counsel with an IT services and business solutions company, had responded to an advert for a toddler’s tracksuit and called round to the seller’s home near Sutton Town Centre on the 2nd October 2012.

Kumar found the woman home alone with her three-year-old son. The woman put the tracksuit on the kitchen table. Kumar held it up and said it was too big for his son.

The woman moved towards the front door to encourage Kumar to leave. Instead, he kissed her on the mouth and face whilst pushing her against the wall with such force that it caused her nose to bleed.

Although only aged three, her son managed to open the door, whilst she managed to push Kumar outside shouting ‘Get out’. The victim then called police.

Police were able to arrest Kumar within 24 hours due to the assistance of the internet company.
